Dōr. Presents + Home & Away — An Exhibition by Sarah Louise Photography
1 December – 31 December | Film Photography from Scotland & Denmark
As winter settles in and December lights begin to shimmer across Kelso, at Dōr. we open the doors to a new exhibition that celebrates place, memory, and the timeless craft of film photography. Home & Away, a month-long showcase by Sarah Louise Photography, brings together work from two landscapes that have shaped both her life and Jack’s life: Scotland and Denmark.
From the rugged quiet of the Scottish Borders to the calm urban elegance of Copenhagen, the exhibition invites viewers to travel gently through moments captured on film. Every photograph on display is shot on analogue cameras, printed with intention, and thoughtfully framed. For those who feel especially drawn to a piece, all prints are available to purchase in-store, framed or unframed, throughout December.
A Photographer Shaped by Place
Sarah’s story begins in the Scottish Borders, where wide horizons and shifting light became early companions. It was there that she first learned to read landscapes - not just as scenery, but as stories.
In 2009, she received her first camera. The gift sparked what would become a lifelong love of observing, capturing, and preserving moments that might otherwise slip away. Over the years her work has evolved, but her central passion has remained: creating images that feel intimate, honest, and treasured.
Today, Sarah is best known for her wedding photography - capturing human connection with sensitivity and authenticity. Yet whenever she can, she slips away to photograph the places she feels most at home: Scotland, with its moody vistas and familiar textures, and Copenhagen, a city whose soft architecture, waterside calm, and understated style continue to pull her back.
These two places, so different and yet unexpectedly aligned, form the backbone of Home & Away.
Film Photography That Slows the World Down
In a digital age of immediacy, Sarah’s commitment to film brings a refreshing sense of pause.
Every frame in the exhibition was shot on an analogue camera—a medium that rewards patience, presence, and trust in the moment. Film can’t be reviewed instantly, posed endlessly, or re-taken on demand. It requires that the photographer see before pressing the shutter. That she listen to her surroundings. That she wait for the right thread of light.
This slower rhythm is woven into the images themselves. The subtle grain, the natural tones, the quiet imperfections—they all reflect the beauty of the real, unpolished world.
Visitors will find landscapes, corners of cities, architectural details, and small unexpected scenes—each one captured with the warm honesty unique to film.
From the Glasgow Gallery of Photography to Dōr.
Last month, one of Sarah’s photographs was featured in the Glasgow Gallery of Photography’s Home exhibition, a moment that underscored how deeply rooted place is in her creative work.
Dōr. is now honoured to present that same admired piece - alongside an extended selection of her favourite images - within our own space. Throughout December, the store becomes a gallery: walls lined with scenes from Copenhagen’s waterfront, glimpses of Scottish hill scapes, and intimate moments of stillness scattered between.
The exhibition is not just a display it’s an invitation to wander, to pause, to recognise something familiar - or something entirely new - within the frames.
Why Scotland and Denmark? A Personal Connection
Though Sarah has long been inspired by both locations, this exhibition also reflects a meaningful connection close to home at Dōr. Copenhagen is a city close to Jack’s heart, and its inclusion brings a quiet personal resonance to the space.
Together, the Scottish and Danish works create a dialogue: Home and away. Familiar and foreign. Rugged and refined. And yet, in Sarah’s photographs, the two places sit comfortably side by side, united by her eye for mood, light, and quiet beauty.
Bringing the Outside In — Prints Available In-Store
Every piece in the exhibition is available for purchase throughout December.
Visitors can choose from:
— Framed prints, ready to hang
— Unframed prints, ideal for gifting or personal display
Each print is produced with the same care with which it was captured, making them meaningful gifts or long-lasting additions to any home.
